Who Can Benefit from placement in The Rapid Recovery Unit

	Orthopaedic patients typically discharged home after surgery
	Patients who require brief intense rehabilitation (typically less than 20 days)
	Individuals with recent diagnosis of an acute cardiac event

Criteria for Admission to The Rapid Recovery Unit

	Recent surgical event preventing individual from being discharged home from the hospital
	Cognitive status that allows for full participation in the education and therapeutic components
	Prior level of function of modified or full independence in ADLs and ambulation
	Goal of returning home

Scope of Services

	An interdisciplinary approach is emphasized by a team comprised of physicians, registered and licensed nurses, dieticians, rehabilitative therapists and social services
	Individualized care plans will be developed and implemented as a pathway to achieve patient’s goals.
	In addition to therapy goals, approaches will include nursing, medical management, educational and nutritional concerns as identified.
